There is a new update for all 2016 Ford models with SYNC 3 that will now offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In order to take advantage of the upgrade, drivers can download the software to a USB drive, over-the-air via a Wi-Fi connection or visit a local dealership. Drivers will be getting the SYNC 3 version 2.2 with this update.
“Our SYNC 3 software platform was designed to be easy to update so we can get our customers the latest and greatest features, functionally and security enhancements,” said Don Butler, executive director, Ford Connected Vehicle and Services. “With over-the-air updates, we can deliver new features to customers in the background while they continue using their vehicles.”
If drivers are looking to download the software onto a USB drive, it will be available at owner.ford.com. With a Wi-Fi-enabled vehicle and a Wi-Fi network, drivers can set up the car to receive the update automatically.
What’s include with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for Ford?
Those with an iPhone 5 or up running iOS 7.1 or higher are eligible to take advantage of Apple CarPlay. Users can make phone calls, use voice-guided navigation, listen to music and send and receive messages. This can all happen while staying focused on the road by operating the system via Siri voice control. Drivers will need to get Apple CarPlay as a USB hub upgrade, which is available through all Ford dealerships.
Drivers with Android devices 5.0 and higher will be able to link up using Android Auto. Like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto will show up on the car’s built-in display and can be navigated via voice controls. We’re going to highlight some of the available features with Android Auto below:
- Google Maps
- Google Play Music
- Phone calls
- Third party apps
