The Calgary-area has much to offer in the way of Christmas events and activities, whether it be concerts, festivals or holiday parades. However, some of the best Christmas attractions in 2017 are the lights displays.
Zoo Lights • Calgary Zoo
November 4 – January 6
Celebrating its 20th year, the Zoo Lights at the Calgary Zoo features beautiful lights displays, as well as snow bowling, skating, reindeer, visits with Santa, ice carving demonstrations, hot chocolate and the opportunity to build your own igloo. (210 St. George’s Drive NE, Calgary, AB T2E 7V6)
Christmas Light Parade • Legacy
November 25 – January 7
Head to Legacy for the annual Christmas Light Parade and see vibrant lights displays and festive decorations in the parks, as well as decorated homes in the community. (Legacy Circle SE, Calgary, AB T2X 0W9)
Christmas Lights • Downtown Calgary
December 1 – Christmas
One of the best Christmas lights displays you’ll find in the area is in downtown Calgary — and you don’t even have to pay any money. Downtown highlights this Christmas include Olympic Plaza, McDougall Centre, Prince Island Park and the CORE Shopping Centre, which features 150 decorated trees.
Light up the Square • 5th Street Square
December 2 • 3:00 – 6:00 pm
Check out the tree lighting ceremony at Light up the Square in the East Village. The event will also have caroling, horse-drawn wagon rides, cookies and a visit from Santa. (712 5 St SE, Calgary, AB T2G 2W8)
Lions Festival of Lights • Confederation Park
December 2 – January 8 • 6:00 – 11:00 pm
Take a drive through Confederation Park for the Festival of Lights, with over 450,000 lights. The event is run by the Lions Festival of Lights Society and is free of charge. (905 30 Ave NW, Calgary, AB T2K 0A2)
