Highways and paved roads are pretty great. They give you a nice smooth ride as you commute to and from work. Sometimes you need a change of pace, though. There is a certain level of excitement that comes with breaking away from your routine for a bit.
Heading off-road can be the jolt of adrenaline you need this summer. There can be some incredibly fun and exciting memories formed during these trips. Not every car is going to be able to go off-road, so how do you know which one to buy? There are a few different body types out there that could work, but we’ll show you which one is the best.
Best Cars for Going Off-Road
The three different types of vehicles that are usually considered for going off-road are SUVs, pickups, and crossovers. A sports utility vehicle is a very versatile type of vehicle. An SUV can be a great choice for drivers who need to commute, chaperone kids, and go off-road. Not every SUV is going to be able to go off-road, but there are a lot of great ones. An SUV usually has a slightly higher frame that can help it clear some rocks.
Pickup trucks can be great off-road vehicles, but they often need special equipment to do it. A lot of standard trucks are going to have a long and low body, which isn’t great for going off-road. Trucks are great at towing and hauling though. If you have some ATVs to take to the off-road trail, then a truck is the best choice. Crossovers are good commuter cars, but their towing and off-road capabilities leave much to be desired.
