2020 FORD EXPLORER: THE ONE WORTH WAITING FOR

For the 2020 model year, Ford determined that it was time that some of its most popular sport utility vehicle be refreshed, and in some cases, redesigned. To be clear, the focus was not only on their popular smaller SUVs, but the larger ones in their extensive line-up, too.
And here it is, the all-new2020 Ford Explorer – a firm favourite for those who want the space of a minivan – but with greater utility and versatility. The qualities of this new SUV are undeniable.  In terms of space, for example, it can hold a 4-foot-wide sheet of plywood in the cargo area – very few commercial vehicles can make that claim!

But wait: there’s more – so much more. Fold the seats in the third row, and you get 1,350 litres of space. Further, fold the second-row seats, and then you have a total of 2,486 litres. Space for many different cargo-like permutations – for transport – or even travel. In terms of actual available space, the 2020 Ford Explorer is far ahead of its competitors.

The advantage of this ample cargo space? Where to start? Of course, if it is not used for luggage or even golf clubs or hockey equipment, it can be used for passengers – as many as six adults. In addition, the 2020 Explorer has the best headroom in its class for the second and third-row passengers, all quite comfortable with more than adequate legroom. Remember, first and foremost, the Ford Explorer is a family vehicle, as demonstrated by the convenience and innovation of the second-row E-Z Entry system.

Visually, the 2020 Ford Explorer has stunning curbside appeal. With the new, redefined-looking grill, its muscular silhouette, gives it a more assertive yet refined look.

Five versions

The 2.3-litre EcoBoost model, standard on the 2020 Ford Explorer, has increased the towing capacity to 5,000 pounds. Of course, opt for the Ford Explorer 2020 Platinum version, and the towing capacity goes up to 5,600 pounds – almost double the capability 2019 Ford Explorer.

For 2020, Ford has introduced five versions of the all-new Explorer, including the sportiest, the ST. The latter receives a 3.3-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost engine – the same engine which powers the Lincoln Continental. The ST produces 415 lb-ft of torque, as well as 400 horsepower.

Naturally, average fuel consumption varies – 11.6L/100 km city and 8.7L/100km highway compared to 13.3L/100km city and 9.8L/100km on the highway. For those looking at further flexibility with fuel consumption, Ford has made a hybrid model available –a 3.3-litre V6 engine coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission with an integrated 44 CV electric motor-generator for a total power availability of a respectable 318 horsepower.

The operation of the hybrid operation is simple: a clutch allows the hybrid engine to disconnect from the gasoline engine, which in turn enables the engine to stop and allows full electric operation in certain driving circumstances while driving at low speed, all while maintaining an average fuel consumption of 9.8L/100 km.

Technology and security

To be clear. The 2020 Ford Explorer is not just about power and space. The 2020 Ford Explorer has the latest comfort, convenience and most importantly, the very latest and proven safety technologies from the manufacturer. For example, the improved SYNC system and its total compatibility with smartphones, even integrating the popular (Google) Waze application into the package. Available voice commands and the large 10.1-inch touchscreen display allow intuitive operation of the complete system – from cabin comfort to entertainment choices.

When it comes to safety, just about everything has been thought of and built in. The Ford Explorer offers the CoPilot360 package, a group of on-board electronic safety systems which comprehensively integrates adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and many other functions.  As for those who might be worried about the physical size of this Ford Explorer, rest assured that engineers have considered many variables to enhance the utility and capability of this full-size vehicle. In addition to the blind spot sensors, the new Explorer offers an even more sophisticated version of the previous parking camera system and an overall improved parking assistance system.

And did we mention the sophisticated Bang & Olufsen sound system? Taking full advantage of acoustics and sound deadening materials, this system has the ability to provide multiple entertainment options for all passengers – without distracting the driver. Comfortable, spacious, modern, and powerful, the new 2020 Ford Explorer is the complete family vehicle for you!
