2022 Ford Mustang Mach-e vs Tesla model Y

2022 Ford Mustang Mach-e vs Tesla model Y

Diehard fans were baffled when the new Mustang Mach E was announced back in 2019. It looked nothing like the traditional gas-burners, two-door bad boys. Yet, it was fantastic anyway. The 2022 Mustang Mach E is a family, all-electric SUV with big plans to beat the Tesla Y model. How do both models compare, though? Keep reading and find out.

Driveability and Performance

Driveability and Performance

The definitions of exhilaration were updated successfully. Mach E may not look like its predecessors but surely lives up to its legacy. It has an impressively smooth driveability without giving up power and can go up to 300 miles on a single charge.

Ford Mustang Mach E boasts 480 horsepower against Tesla Y’s 456 horsepower. Mach E has more torque power, 634 lb-ft, compared with 497 lb-ft. Indeed, Mustang’s new car is the torquiest one in its lineup. Both have enough range for comfortable urban driving. Both models can go from 0 to 60mph in 3.5 seconds.

Interior Designs

Interior Designs

The interior designs are modern and comfortable in both cars, as one would expect from a flagship model. Also, Ford’s former bad boy excels in seat quality, which is more supportive. Mach E’s interiors are also more silent due to a more efficient sound isolation system.

Technology and Safety

Technology and Safety

Mustang’s cars are much more mature now, and their vehicles are all about safety. It counts on a Sync4A infotainment system for navigation, including a CoPilot360 suite. Other safety improvements include cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist.

Tesla Model Y offers semi-autonomous driving options with steering assistance and adaptive cruise control. Yet, the driver must remain attentive during the journey and should take the wheel at any sign of danger. Both models come equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Trims

Trims

Mustang’s and Tesla’s cars are very similar in internal space, but the first has way more trims than the latter. Also, Mach E buyers can choose their colours from a much more varied pallet and are much more customizable overall. Mustang has six different trims against two on Tesla’s side.

Teslas’ trims are the Performance, and Long Range with the autonomy of 303 miles and 326 miles, respectively. The Standard Model has been discontinued. The Long Range version can go further than Mach E but with slower acceleration. While the Long Range goes from 0 to 60 miles in 4.8 seconds, the Mach E does it in 3.5 seconds.

Price Range

Price Range

Unlike Tesla’s model, Mach E is eligible for federal tax credits. So, the latter is more economical in this sense. However, the price gap between the entry-level model and the flagship one is considerably wider on Mustang’s corner: up to CAD 30,000.
