Ford Bronco Raptor Coming in 2022

The Ford Bronco has been making waves in the off-road market since its arrival in 2021, taking on more established models with its enticing blend of rugged design, trail-friendly engineering, and huge power under the hood.

But while standard Bronco models offer an excellent experience, there's something even more attractive and exciting arriving in the near future. Ford has released limited details about a forthcoming high-performance version, going under the Raptor label. Based on the same retro styling of the regular models, it's set to massively improve the engineering to deliver what could be one of the best outdoor SUVs ever.

Full details of the Ford Bronco Raptor are yet to be confirmed, and we don't even have a firm fix on when it'll arrive at our Ford dealer location. But here's what we know so far, and why we're getting very excited indeed about its launch.

Massively Boosted Power Under the Hood

All we know for certain about the engine is that it'll be a high-end model with huge output, and that it won't be a V8 design. That leaves Ford's existing 3.6L twin-turbo V6 model as the most likely contender, especially as it's the one used in the Raptor version of the F-150. This mill makes a huge 450 horsepower, likely passed to all-wheel drive through a ten-speed automatic transmission. As with other off-road oriented Ford models, the Bronco Raptor is likely to have a generous set of drive modes to give surefooted handling over even the toughest of terrains.

Off-Road Engineering

From the few photos of the Bronco Raptor to be found, it's clear that the vehicle is riding on a higher suspension than its regular Bronco cousins, with beefier tuning to handle rock crawling or sand-dune climbing with equal ease. Adaptive dampers and all-terrain tires measuring up to 37" are likely to complete the high-end off-road picture.

Comfortable Interior

Unlike some other outdoor SUVs that hog the limelight, the Bronco Raptor is thought to deliver an interior experience that's every bit as comfortable and luxurious as the top Bronco trims that are already on the market. We can expect a large infotainment touchscreen taking pride of place in the centre of the dashboard, with all the modern features you'd hope for including smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and even a high-end audio system from Bang & Olufsen.

Active Safety and Driver Assist

The regular Bronco models already include an impressive suite of active safety systems, including features specifically designed to make rock crawling and trail traversing easier and safer. The Raptor is sure to at least match the currently available suite, along with regular safety features such as automated emergency braking, lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring.
