The 2018 Ford Explorer continues a nearly three-decade legacy of delivering a pleasing blend of utility, spaciousness, comfort and off-road capabilities. The new Explorer also delivers impressive power and performance with its high-tech engine options. 

2018 Ford Explorer Engine Choices 

The standard engine in the 2018 Ford Explorer is the 3.5-liter TI-VCT V6, which produces an output of 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. The new Explorer also offers two available EcoBoost engines, which deliver an impressive balance of performance and efficiency. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 produces 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque — and for even more power, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 generates 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Transmission options include the standard six-speed SelectShift automatic and available six-speed automatic.

Performance Features and Capabilities of 2018 Explorer 

If you desire some adventure and want to head far out into the wilderness, the Explorer offers the available Intelligent 4WD system, which gives you confident handling and traction over uneven and challenging terrains. Additional available off-road technologies include the Terrain Management System and Hill Descent Control. All Explorer trims come standard with Hill Start Assist and Electric Power Steering, while the independent front and rear suspension systems deliver a smooth ride. Also, the Explorer boasts up to a 5,000-pound towing capacity, while the standard Trailer Sway Control keeps the trailer stable while on the move.
